Pahiyangala caves lies in Yatagampitiya, which is a remote village about 5 km away from Bulathsinhala, in the Kalutara District. Excavation has proved that these caves were inhabited by prehistoric cave men some 37,000 years ago. This cave is supposed to be the largest natural rock in Asia and this is also known to be the most ancient pre-historic human settlement in Asia.

Day 1

Visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage provides visitors with the best chance of seeing many elephants at close quarters. The orphanage was established in 1975 and commenced with seven orphaned elephants. Today some of these orphans enjoy the fortune of seeing their calves born in the same location. Assisted by local and foreign elephant experts, Pinnawala commenced a successful captive breeding program and the first baby elephant was born in 1984. It is most interesting to visit at feeding time to see the baby elephants being bottle fed and the entire herd taken for a bath thereafter to the river nearby.

Do a city tour in Kandy & Visit Temple of the Tooth Relic

Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan Kings, and is a World Heritage Site. The name Kandy conjures visions of splendour and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798.

The Moragahakanda Dam is a large gravity dam, and the main component of the larger and more complex Moragahakanda – Kalu Ganga Project, currently under construction across the Amban River at Elahera, in the Matale District of Sri Lanka. Construction began on 25 January 2007. The maiden waters of the dam were released in January 2017. Morgahakanda/Kaluganga project is the last of the Great Mahaveli project.

Spices are an essential element of the cuisine of Sri Lanka and the Ayurvedic tradition. Visit a garden specializes in the cultivation of these substances and get to know excellent the purposes and new uses of certain ingredients. You will find cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom, black pepper and many more in the spice garden. During the period of Dutch, Sri Lanka was very famous for spices and we exported to different countries. Uma Oya Hydropower Complex is an irrigation and hydroelectric complex currently under construction in the Badulla District of Sri Lanka. Early assessments of project dates to 1989, when the first studies were conducted by the country’s Central Engineering and Consultancy Bureau. The complex involves building a dam across Dalgolla Oya, and channelling water over a 3,975 m tunnel to Mathatilla Oya, both of which are tributaries of the Uma Oya. At Mathatilla Oya, another dam is constructed to channel 145,000,000 m3 of water per annum, via a 15,290 m headrace tunnel to the Uma Oya Power Station, where water then discharged to the Alikota Aru via a 3,335 m tailrace tunnel. The Alikota Aru is a trubutary of the Kirindi Oya.
